Winter is Coming

Happy Friday friends! Now that the temps have officially dropped here in NYC, I have no choice but to bundle up in my puffer coat. It's never a good day when you have to pull that bad boy out of storage! But one thing I've learned over the years I spent at the University of Minnesota (where puffer coat season is basically Sept-May), is that you can absolutely still look chic even while wearing your biggest, puffiest coat! I've teamed up with Noize to share my top 5 tips for staying stylish AND warm.

1.) The fit of the coat is everything. You want something loose enough to layer over a sweater, but you don't want TOO much room. A big mistake many women make is thinking that they need all this extra space for sweatshirts and sweaters. How big are your sweaters?!? There is no way you really need that much room for layers, and the extra space makes you look bigger than you are.

2.) Pick a color that fits into your winter wardrobe. Winter coats come in all sorts of beautiful colors these days, and it can be tempting to get that cobalt blue stunner. But before you buy, think back to what kinds of boots, hats, scarves, etc you wear. If you love colorful accessories, you are better off sticking to something neutral, like black or navy.

3.) Go with a faux fur trimmed hood!! On most coats this is a removable detail, so if you worry about the fur getting wet during a snow storm, you can easily take it off. This simple detail can make a coat look much more luxe than it is.

4.) Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! I am a huge fan of bright and fun winter accessories. They make me smile even on the coldest of days. The mittens above for instance, are super cozy and the bright colors pop against my black coat. I rounded it out with fun magenta Hunter Boots and a matching crossbody. Hats, gloves, scarves, and boots are a great way to show your personal style when your outfit is covered up by your coat!

5.) When in doubt, throw on some sunnies. They are often overlooked in the colder months, which I never understood. While you may not be able to feel its warmth, the sun is still shining! Plus they add a chic finishing touch to your winter look. I love adding pops of pink in the winter, and my aviators are a great way to add a touch of my fave color!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and that you stay as chic as possible in this frigid weather!
